New Year Resolutions

Well, it’s the New Year, have you made your resolutions yet? If not, don’t worry, I have some helpful tips for you on ways to make successful resolutions. Every year I set out to make resolutions, but I never seem to follow through with them, or I make too may I don’t complete all of them throughout the year. I found seven great steps on the website below for how to make a New Year’s resolution and keep it.

  1. Just pick one thing – Pick one area of your life you want to improve in.
  2. Plan ahead – Research the change you want to make and plan ahead, so you will be prepared when you are ready to make your change.
  3. Anticipate problems – There will be problems, so make a list of what they would be so they will be easy to cope with when they come up.
  4. Pick a start date – You don’t just have to start these on New Year’s Day, you have control of when you what your start date to be.
  5. Go for it – On your start date go for it, and commit to it 100%.
  6. Accept failure – If you do fail, make note of what made you fail and vow to learn a lesson from it.
  7. Plan rewards – Any kind of rewards are great encouragement to keep going with your goals.

My New Year’s resolution is to be more independent. I plan on doing this by figuring out/handling situations on my own. I anticipate there being problems, which include: I do not know how to do something and I may want to ask for help. Which is okay, but I want to try to see if I can figure situations out by myself first. My start date will be January 11. I choose this date because that is when I start my last semester in college. I plan to commit 100% and will accept failure and learn from it. My rewards will be little things. Whenever I know I completed a task or handled a situation independently I will treat myself to relaxation and anything at the time that will help me feel relaxed.
