As I sat out in the deer stand this past weekend enjoying the above average temperatures, I got to thinking about what my favorite season is. I started listing in my head all the things I like to do and what season they fall into. Thinking back to when I was a kid on the farm to now as an adult with a family.
As I thought about spring I listed what it had to offer, good and bad. I will list just a few as there are so many points for each category: snow melts, muddy yards, planting the fields, everything turning green again.
The list for summer developed next: warm temperatures, gardening, thunderstorms, camping, BUGS. Then I worked my way through fall: cooling temps, harvesting the fields, hunting, and the leaves changing colors. And lastly, winter: ice fishing, skating, snowstorms, blowing and shoveling snow.
Now with these lists in my head I kept bouncing around all the seasons and came up with in order of my favorite to least favorite:
Fall – Winter – Summer – Spring
Fall took top spot as it holds my best memories from childhood to now. Being raised on the farm I really enjoyed the harvest time. There was a sense of accomplishment from taking out the crops and tilling the fields; the bright yellows and reds of the trees; having a fire in the back yard on a cool night.
With all the different likes and hobbies I have, I can’t imagine living in a part of the world that didn’t experience the changes that we have here in the Midwest.
