Wally Hines to speak at WATS Conference

Wally Hines, our Director of Standards, will be speaking at the 16th Annual World Aviation Training Symposium (WATS) in Orlando, Florida on April 18, 2013. His topic, “Successfully Moving Your Manuals And Training Materials To Mobile Delivery”, will consider the limitations of traditional, paper based delivery methods of both manuals and training materials as well as what objectives are being met by making such a transition.

Transitioning to a mobile solution is more complex than just selecting which mobile device to use. For a successful transition, airlines and training centers must first seriously analyze their current situation across their entire organization. (What is working now? What is the cost of what we are doing now? What is the cost to change?) Secondly, airlines must determine what they wish to accomplish by making the transition. (Faster delivery times, simpler auditing, financial savings?) Thirdly, airlines must execute their transition plans and continually monitor progress to ensure that their goals are being achieved. Failure to follow these three steps will produce disappointing results.

Transitioning to mobile delivery because everyone else is doing it or because it’s popular to have iPads on the flight deck is a mistake. Determine why, and even if, making the transition will improve your efficiency and productivity. There are incredible gains to be made by making the transition, but rushing into it or doing it for the wrong reasons can be costly. Every carrier has different reasons for making this transition. What is yours?
